This new national undergraduate scheme has been launched thanks to the generous donation by Dr Naim Dangoor of £3 million over 3 years, in thanks to the UK for providing refuge after he left Iraq in the 1960s. Dr Dangoor, now in his nineties, has named the scheme in honour of his father, Eliahou Dangoor. With matched funding from the government, the total funding available to participating universities is expected to reach £4 million, and will assist up to 4000 students who wish to study science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects at university.
The eligibility criteria for these scholarships will be as follows – you should be: a UK national; paying the UK rate of tuition fee (£9,000); studying a STEM subject (science, technology, engineering and maths);* studying full-time at undergraduate degree level; on your first degree level course of study; a recent school-leaver and in your first year of your course; in receipt of the maximum maintenance grant (£3,250) and have an assessed household income of £25,000 pa or less; have applied for your full student loan entitlement; have a ‘final’ assessment status from Student Finance England/Wales/N.Ireland/SAAS; you and your parents/guardians/sponsors must have given ‘consent to share’ your household income data with the College to Student Finance England/Wales/N.Ireland/SAAS.**
