PhD Studentship in the field of Paediatric Cancer Epidemiology / Biostatistics, Switzerland

Scholarship Details:

The childhood cancer research group conducts epidemiological research on risk factors and outcomes of cancer in children. We collaborate closely with clinicians and research groups in Switzerland and abroad.
The PhD project will examine the risk of childhood cancer in relation to place of living and environmental exposures. The main research question will be whether population mixing, i.e. the rapid population influx into a rural area, is associated with an increased risk of leukaemia in children living in that area. Other exposures, such as background ionising radiation might also be studied. During your PhD you will combine and analyse data from the Swiss Childhood Cancer Registry and the Swiss National Cohort , write up and publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present results at national and international meetings. The PhD will allow you to gain a broad understanding of epidemiological methods, to learn and apply a variety of statistical techniques, and to effectively communicate your results. You will be working closely with epidemiologists, clinicians, statisticians and other PhD students.
