The Department of Physics and Technology (IFT – (http://www.uib.no/ift) there is a vacant position as a postdoctoral experimental nano-physics. The position is linked to the new laboratory for electron-beam lithography and nano-physics, and is thought to strengthen the department’s focus on nanotechnology related to the Michelsen Centre for industrial measurement science and technology (http://www.michelsencentre.com/).
The postdoctoral position is a temporary position and the chief objective being to qualify the candidate for work in professional senior positions. The term of employment for this position is 4 years. For appointment period of 4 years is 25% compulsory work. No one can be added as a postdoctoral fellow in more than one temporary period at the same institution.
The postdoctoral position will be affiliated to the new electron beam lithography laboratory. The successful candidate will work with the production and characterization of nano-structures for use within optical nanoskopisk detection and imaging. Another possible work assignment will be to create nano-structures for the manipulation of magnetic micro-and nano-particles. It is also expected that the student participates in activities related to the new nano-physics laboratory, which comes into place in 2011, where a state of the art electron beam lithography system is a central place.

Applicants must have achieved a Norwegian doctorate in physics or equivalent education abroad, or have presented the dissertation for assessment by the application deadline. It is a prerequisite that the dissertation has been approved before appointment is granted.
Applicants should come with proposals for a project for qualifying work. The proposal should also include a progress plan. It is a prerequisite that the successful candidate will complete the project within the stipulated period of employment. The project proposal and schedule to be included as part of (attached to) the contract for a fixed term of appointment and shall include the name of the person who is to be the discipline advisor for the employees.
The teaching language will normally be Norwegian.
Starting salaries at salary level 57 (code 1352/LR24.1) by appointment. Further promotion on the seniority of service in the position (wage rose from 1957 to 1964). Of particularly highly qualified applicants may be considered a higher salary.
