Scholarship Details:
The Postdoctoral Fellow will take a key role in a new NHMRC-funded project investigating neuroplasticity within the spinal cord and sensory ganglia following spinal cord injury. This position will conduct detailed structural and immunohistochemical studies using established injury models in rodents in order to identify the primary sites of plasticity that are responsible for the development of neuropathic pain, a major problem in injured people. These experiments will integrate closely with parallel pharmacological studies in the laboratory to develop new treatments for neuropathic pain.
Eligibility Details:
-PhD or equivalent in neuroscience or related discipline
-Proven ability to conduct high quality neuroscience research using animal models
-Strong background in neuroanatomy, including expertise in methods used to visualise and characterise neuronal structures (e.g., immunohistochemistry)
-Expertise in image analysis and confocal microscopy
-Expertise in performing recovery surgery and post-surgical care in rodents
-Publication of original research in peer-reviewed international journals Strong communication skills (oral and written English) and excellent interpersonal skills
-Excellent organisational and data management skills
-Ability to work independently as well as collegially as a member of a team
-Motivation to develop a successful research career
