Scholarship Details:
AAJA’ s mission is to encourage Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) to enter the ranks of journalism, work for fair and accurate coverage of AAPIs, and promote increasing the number of AAPI journalists and news managers in the industry.
Award Details:
AAJA will award one student $500. The scholarship will be for a college student pursuing journalism as a career. The student must plan to be enrolled full-time for the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 semesters.
1) Applicants must be committed to AAJA’ s mission.
2) Applicants must demonstrate journalistic excellence, a strong interest in pursuing journalism as a career, and a commitment to community involvement.
3) For chapter scholarships: Applicants must be a graduating high school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student enrolled full time with at least 12 credit units each semester for the fall of 2011 and spring of 2012 school year. Applicants must be currently taking or planning to take journalism courses and/or pursuing journalism as a career.
Selection Criteria:
Candidate will be selected on the basis of academic achievement, demonstrated journalistic ability, financial need, commitment to the field of journalism and/or sensitivity to Asian American and Pacific Islander issues. Individual scholarships may weigh criteria differently and/or take into account other factors.
